Mother Theresa

Frankly, I found I 'd changed my  taste of movies. I prefer the kind with little stories about real life rather than those epic movies. The former can lead to ideas from my deep heart, thinking about life, love and myself as I'll talk about below. Therefore the latter have not attractive plots but magnificent scenes, luxurious stars, over-advertising on media,  outrageous visualization, such as rich colors, strange characters etc..

Have you heard I Not Stupid(2002) from Singapore? I don't like it very much for it's  average in actors, director and everything. But there are culture conflicts in every corner of the social, such as in language learning(Chinese  and English ), education(east and west), family ,communication and marketing. The Singlish sounds oddish which impressed me most. Even though, parents are proud of their boys who cannot speak Chinese but Singlish . I was surprised to discover that I could hear every word of the Singlish conversation and get the meanings very quickly. It's terribly but not cheerful!

The other one I also understand is Indian-English in Mother Teresa of Calcutta(2003) . The words and sentences are simple, and the story is simple too. There is no need to express such true love story by too much language and movie skills. Though it just shows a few fragments in her life, it is enough to touch everyone's heart. As far as I know, I was so deeply moved. Her blue eyes clear and clean, I think she is the most beautiful woman in the world. She must be an angle. No more to say, I'd like to share with you some words from Mother Theresa and from the movie.

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends
And some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building,
Someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
(From the movie: It's so difficult to build, and so easy to destroy.)

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Be good anyway.

Give the world the best you have,
And it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you have anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It is never between you and them anyway.

A Christian must be a good Christian,
a Muslim must be a good Muslim,
and a Hindu must be a good Hindu.

Remember to smile, always.
Smiles are infectious and the more it costs us,
the more precious it is.
Smiling is our first act of love,
it's a sign of our love for god.

Life is life, let us defend it always,
and with a smile helping the weakest, the poor, the sick, the old.
defend our children from the culture of indifference and death,
defend life right from conception  to death,
and if someone isn't able or capable to do it,
entrust it to me.

Where there is desperation, may i bring hope.
where there is sadness, let me bring joy.
Allow me to console, rather than be consoled.
To understand, rather than to be understood.
To love, rather than be loved.
Because giving is receiving.
Because it is in forgiving, that we are forgiven.
It is in dying, that we are born to eternal life.

If you are still interested in Mother Theresa and her story, I recommend a book in Chinese named 《德兰修女传》(在爱中行走). You can read some chapters here, and get the whole ebook at this site.

Comparing with such a good movie like Mother Teresa of Calcutta(2003), I feel latest Hongkong movie is a pity. Last month a friend of mine  recommended Run Papa Run(2008). With hope of the director's good reputation I saw it, but I can't resist quit seeing for several times even at half of it. I do like the special arrangement of the story in movie, but I was realy dizzy with bewilderment by the fragmental story-telling style of this movie. Maybe Zhangaijia changed her flavor, too. But it's a pity that the new style doesn't suit me well.
